As we know, talent and hard work knows no boundaries - in less than two years, he worked his way up to become the go-to name in the textile community, catering to all the needs of fashion-conscious women. This visionary of the trade entered the domain of manufacturing on an asset-light model basis, starting with a small factory with eight machines in Santacruz East at Mumbai.
In less than three decades, the brand created a name for itself, boasting of an infrastructure of more than 1,200 machines as well as creating a source of employment for more than 2,500 Indians. The year 2017 was an important milestone for the organization since it marked the entry of the young turks Mr. Ushik Gala and Ms. Ishita Gala in Suumaya. With these second-generation entrepreneurs entering the business on a full-time basis, armed with their expertise and modern-day corporate acumen, Suumaya evolved from a local ethnic wear manufacturer into a full-fledged apparels brand. It went through a sea of corporatization to complement the expansion initiatives undertaken by the youthful, vibrant management.
Going from Strength to Strength
The young brains in the organization, in fact, left no stones unturned to ensure the company reached the highest echelons of success. In 2018, Suumaya Lifestyle Limited was listed on NSE Emerge (SME portal). The following year, it diversified into the business of supply chain engineering in commodities in the B2B space under the aegis of Rangoli Tradecomm Limited, dealing with polymers, PVC resin, bitumen, manganese, yarn, fabric and the like.
Diversification and Appreciating Core Values
Even when Covid-19 struck in 2020 and textile was amongst one of the most worst-hit sectors, it did not come in the way of progress of this dynamic organization. In fact, this global crisis opened a window for the brand to hone its core values.
It was the stepping stone to laying the foundation of vision, with a noble initiative to enhance the lives of people. Suumaya witnessed a 360-degree turnaround in the 365 days of 2020: it grew from a lifestyle company to a large diversified conglomerate. From NSE Emerge, it migrated to the NSE Main Board. New sectors that materialized and were scaled up included medical/technical textile, agro, retail and rural financial inclusion. In March 2021, Rangoli Tradecomm Limited was listed on BSE SME platform. Suumaya found its way the list of top 1,000 listed companies by market cap as on March 31, 2021.
